Nova Roma

Nova Roma holds the memory of gold and of its old parish. Paredão do Céu appears in the guide as an invitation to explore the municipality’s landscape, with visits and access to be confirmed.

History and paths

Nova Roma has its origins in eighteenth-century mining and in the formation of a settlement around the chapel of Saint Theodore. In 1858, it was a parish linked to Cavalcante.

In 1953, the district became part of Veadeiros. The municipality was created in 1958 and formally established in 1959. Old routes, parishes, mineral extraction and administrative reorganizations connect its history to that of other towns in the Chapada.

The rural landscape and the falls of the Rio Forquilha, in the Paredão do Céu area, invite you to explore a less-visited stretch. Before organizing hikes in the area covered by the National Park, confirm the authorized access points with park management.
